Susan M. Garrett was a prolific author of Forever Knight fan fiction. Though, at the time of her death, she had not written in the fandom for some time, she retained her interest in Forever Knight, and contributed largely to the expansion of this Wiki. Susan used to be hugely active on ForKni-L, and a member of the Ravenettes. She was also the author of the professionally published tie-in novel, Intimations of Mortality. Her fan fiction can be found at The Library of Lost Souls.

Susan M. Garrett joined FORKNI-L@LISTS.PSU.EDU the first week of September, 1993.[1] She was given the title of "The Empress of FK-Fic" by the FKFIC-L list in honour of the breadth of her influence on the fandom. On that list, she started the practice of Story Challenges, participated in a number of round robins, was a part of the first fictional FKWar and either wrote or participated in subsequent FK Wars. In addition, it became a tradition to post Forever Knight fiction to the FKFIC-L list in a Birthday Challenge to help Susan celebrate her birthday.

In 1998, Susan M. Garrett created and ran the The Forever Knight Fan Fiction Awards. Awards were given to the authors of Forever Knight fan fiction that was nominated and voted upon by Forever Knight fans - all items posted on the internet during or previous to December 31st, 1997 were eligible for nomination. In 1999, Susan again ran the awards, during which Forever Knight fan fiction posted on the internet during or previous to December 31st, 1998 were nominated and voted upon by Forever Knight fans.

NotesEdit

Susan ran several different websites over the years. "Susan's Bookshelf" (at http://www.vitinc.com/~susang/) was her first main site, with her fan fiction kept at http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/2167/. The latter, renamed The Library of Lost Souls, was later moved to its current location at http://home.earthlink.net/~susanmgarrett/, with another site at http://www.sff.net/people/susang/index.html.

At one time, Susan also ran a website for the Forever Knight Fan Fiction Awards, plus some polls, at http://members.aol.com/fkvote/.

ReferencesEdit

  1. In a post to FORKNI-L, "Re: Old Listee's home and dinos" (1 Aug 2000), Susan erroneously says she joined in September 1994. On her website, however, she says she wrote her first piece of fan fiction in October 2003 "one month after joining the ForKni-L Mailing List",[1] which accords with the actual date of her first story.
